Matariki Manako Nui – Wishes for a Sweet New Year
This week, we arrive at the heart of Matariki: Matariki Manako Nui – the time for hopes, wishes, and looking to the future.
Matariki Manako Nui refers to the wishes and desires we send to the stars as the new year begins. It's a time not just for personal resolutions, but for collective aspirations that benefit our community and the environment. Traditionally, Māori would send their hopes and dreams into the stars during Matariki, reaffirming their bond to the different parts of the environment.
This year,
under the national theme Matariki Herenga Waka – For Everyone, we are reminded that we are all on this waka together. Our journey is shared, and so are our hopes for a thriving future.
At Parakai Honey, our wishes are deeply connected to the land, the bees, and the people we share this journey with. Our commitment to Kaitiakitanga (guardianship) and Kotahitanga (unity) guides us as we plan for the year ahead.
Our Manako (Wishes) for the New Year:
🌿 For the land: That our native bush, and the mānuka it provides for our bees, continues to flourish.
🐝 For our bees: For their health and vitality in the seasons to come.
🧡 For our community: That we continue to gather around the table, sharing sweet, local kai with loved ones.
