Mānawatia a Matariki – A Blessing for Everyone
Kia ora koutou,
Today, we pause.
The Matariki star cluster has risen in the dawn sky, marking the beginning of the Māori New Year. It's a time to remember those who have passed, celebrate the present, and look forward with hope to the future.
For us at Parakai Honey, this day holds special meaning. It's a reminder of the journey we share – a journey guided by our values of Kotahitanga (unity), Kaitiakitanga (guardianship), and Whakaute (respect). These values connect us to the land, to our bees, and to you, our community.
This year, in Tāmaki Makaurau(Auckland), Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, the local iwi(tribe)are hosting celebrations, under the theme Matariki Herenga Waka – For Everyone. It's a theme that speaks to the heart of who we are: a company that believes in bringing people together around the table, sharing the pure taste of Aotearoa.
Our team has gathered by the hives this morning to send our own manako (wishes) into the stars. We wish for healthy land, thriving bees, and a future filled with connection and shared sweetness.
However you choose to spend this day – whether with whānau, friends, or in quiet reflection – we hope it brings you warmth and peace.
Mānawatia a Matariki. ✨
Kia pai tō rā whakatā.
