Honouring Papatūānuku This Matariki

This Matariki, we look to the stars that feed us – and give thanks to the land that sustains our bees.

As the Matariki cluster rises in the winter sky, two stars shine especially bright for us at Parakai Honey: Tupuānuku and Tupuārangi .

Tupuānuku is the star that connects us to the food that comes from the earth – from the soil that nourishes our native bush. Tupuārangi is the star of the forest and the birds, the keeper of all that grows above our heads .

Without healthy soil, there is no mānuka. Without thriving native trees, there are no blossoms for our bees. And without those blossoms, there is no honey. It's that simple.

Our bees are the bridge between the earth and the sky – pollinating the mānuka flowers that grow from Papatūānuku's soil, transforming nectar into the golden honey that sustains us.

This Matariki, as we reflect on the past year and celebrate the harvest of the season, we pause to honour the land that provides for our bees, so they can provide for us.
